  1. This message announces the availability of patch level 4 of version
  2. 0.07 of Linux/68k.
  3.  
  4. It can be ftped from directory /pub/linux/680x0 at tsx-11.mit.edu.

  6. A precompiled kernel executable can be found in vmlinux-0.07pl4.gz in
  7. the "kernel" subdirectory.  The "bootstrap" program from 0.07pl3
  8. should be used to boot the new kernel.

  10. The patch for the kernel source can be found in linux-0.07pl4.diffs.gz
  11. in the "src" subdirectory.

  13. The changes in this release against 0.07pl3 include:

  15. *) The NetBSD-based WD33C93 SCSI drivers for A3000, A2091 and GVP
  16.    Series II have been removed and replaced with new drivers which
  17.    were written from scratch, and which fit more properly into the
  18.    Linux block I/O and SCSI architecture.  Hopefully people will not
  19.    see unexplained SCSI "hangs" with these new drivers (I don't).

  21. Note: These new drivers do not yet do anything with synchronous SCSI,
  22.       or synchronous SCSI negotiation, so you must ensure that your
  23.       SCSI disk drives are not using sychronous data transfers when
  24.       you boot the kernel.  If you have an A3000, this means you
  25.       should use the "SCSIPrefs" program to ensure that the
  26.       "synchronous SCSI" bit in the battmem preferences is turned off.
  27.       For A2091 and GVP Series II owners, check your reference
  28.       manual. Synchronous SCSI support will be added to these drivers
  29.       at some time in the future.
