- This message announces the availability of patch level 4 of version
- 0.07 of Linux/68k.
-
- It can be ftped from directory /pub/linux/680x0 at tsx-11.mit.edu.
-
- A precompiled kernel executable can be found in vmlinux-0.07pl4.gz in
- the "kernel" subdirectory. The "bootstrap" program from 0.07pl3
- should be used to boot the new kernel.
-
- The patch for the kernel source can be found in linux-0.07pl4.diffs.gz
- in the "src" subdirectory.
-
- The changes in this release against 0.07pl3 include:
-
- *) The NetBSD-based WD33C93 SCSI drivers for A3000, A2091 and GVP
- Series II have been removed and replaced with new drivers which
- were written from scratch, and which fit more properly into the
- Linux block I/O and SCSI architecture. Hopefully people will not
- see unexplained SCSI "hangs" with these new drivers (I don't).
-
- Note: These new drivers do not yet do anything with synchronous SCSI,
- or synchronous SCSI negotiation, so you must ensure that your
- SCSI disk drives are not using sychronous data transfers when
- you boot the kernel. If you have an A3000, this means you
- should use the "SCSIPrefs" program to ensure that the
- "synchronous SCSI" bit in the battmem preferences is turned off.
- For A2091 and GVP Series II owners, check your reference
- manual. Synchronous SCSI support will be added to these drivers
- at some time in the future.
